The First Curse

The Second Curse

In this scene the Evil Queen convinces Snow White to take a bite from a poison apple. Like in the biblical story of Adam and Eve, Snow is fully aware of the consequences.

Resurrection is a major theme in the show, this is one of the first examples of it occuring in the show. 'True Love' becomes the godlike power in this scene. Snow is awakened from her death like sleep by true love's kiss. Christian writers have, also, noticed this and are worried about the message that it sends to viewers. Gina Dalfonzo writes in her article, "Fractured Fairy Tale: The Appeal and the Danger of 'Once Upon a Time'", that "the lesson I take away from Once Upon a Time is that the ideal isn't enough, for love doesn't transcend good and evil. It can't be truly inspiring, fulfilling, and all the other things we want it to be, unless it is subject to the One who made it."

In this clip the Evil Queen has just ripped out the heart of her father as the final ingredient in the curse that brings all the characters to Storybrooke Maine from the Enchanted Forest. In order for the curse to work the Evil Queen had to kill the person she loved the most.

In the scene Henry has just died because Regina tried to poison Emma with an apple pastry and Henry choose to eat it so Emma would not. Emma and Regina are forced to overcome their differences in order to save Henry. Unfortunately they are unable to finish their quest before the call comes that Henry did not survive. In Emma's grief she kisses Henry through her tears and Henry is resurrected by a mothers True Love's kiss and as an added bonus the curse on the town is lifted.
